City of Miramar hosts Resource Fair and Food Distribution event for Seniors

The City of Miramar is going the extra mile for its elderly residents. Seniors aged 60 and above can avail themselves of an array of free services aimed at improving their quality of life. 

Outlined in a recent press release, the services include blood pressure screenings, fall prevention information, health screenings and transportation to and from medical appointments, pharmacy pick-ups, end of life preparation, scams and fraud prevention, and more.

Senior Resource Fair: A one-stop hub for services

On September 9th, the city will be hosting a Senior Resource Fair and Food Distribution event.

This gathering will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Multi-service Complex, located at 6700 Miramar Parkway. The event is an initiative by Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis, and offers seniors a chance to explore all the free services available to them.

Food distribution

The food distribution at the event will be managed by Farm Share Inc., a community-focused organization with over 30 years of experience in providing essential food items.

The event promises a line-up of over 40 vendors ready to offer a variety of services. 

Participants can expect to meet representatives from several organizations, including Humana, Minority Builders Association, Legal Aid, In-Tune Health, and CarePlus, among others.

Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis urges seniors to take part in the fair, highlighting the city’s commitment to their well-being.

“At the heart of who we are, aligns with how we appreciate and respect our seniors. They took care of us, and it is our responsibility to make sure they are cared for and protected. I invite all our seniors to come out and take advantage of all the services the city offers,” Davis said.

Social clubs and recreational activities

Seniors interested in more than just essential services can look forward to joining one of Mirama’’s two dedicated centers. 

These hubs offer an extensive list of benefits like travel clubs, shopping trips, and even Casino/Bingo nights, providing opportunities for socialization and recreation.
