The United States Coast Guard reported that its Cutter Dependable saved 33 Haitian migrants on Monday, as their vessel began taking in water about six miles north of Cap-Haitien, Haiti.
Alert leads to rescue mission
Reports are that the Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders received a notification from the Dependable’s crew “after they encountered a sailing vessel taking on water”.
It is reported that 33 people were brought aboard the Dependable and transferred to Haitian authorities in good health on Tuesday.
Collaboration with Puerto Rico Police
The US Coast Guard also reported that it collaborated with Puerto Rico Police air and surface crews in rescuing three boaters from a capsized vessel just off Desecheo Island, Puerto Rico, on Tuesday.
The boaters were wearing life jackets when rescued.
