Jamaican Government Senator Abka Fitz-Henley says Minister of Culture, Sports and Entertainment Olivia Babsy Grange was admitted to hospital and placed in the intensive care unit (ICU) as a precautionary measure.
Fitz-Henley, who was authorized to respond to enquiries from the media on Grange’s behalf, says she is expected to be released from the ICU soon.
“She has been actively engaged in monitoring developments, including what’s happening at the Olympic Games which are currently underway in Paris, and is very pleased that Rasheed Broadbell was able to medal for Jamaica today in the 110m hurdles,” he said.
Fitz-Henley also said Grange specifically asked him to indicate that she is appreciative of the efforts of Hansle Parchment and Orlando Bennett who also competed in the race in Paris.
“Minister Grange is grateful for all the good wishes which have come in and expects to be well soon,” he said.
The statement did not outline the exact reason behind the minister’s hospitalization.
Grange was absent from Tuesday’s staging of the Independence Grand Gala at the National Stadium.
