BENGALURU, India – The 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction promises to be a star-studded affair, with none other than the indomitable West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin headlining a dazzling line-up of cricketing talent.
Scheduled for December 15, the auction will see 120 elite players competing for just 19 coveted spots in the league’s third season, set to enthrall fans from February 21 to March 15, 2025.
The charismatic Dottin, famed for her explosive batting and match-winning performances, has listed herself in the top reserve price category of INR 50 lakh (approximately $60,000). Joining her in this elite bracket is England’s Heather Knight, the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru stalwart who enters the auction as one of the most experienced international players available.
Only five slots available for overseas players
Among the illustrious roster of names hoping to secure a spot are South Africa’s hard-hitting Lizelle Lee and India’s Sneh Rana, Poonam Yadav, Shubha Satheesh, Tejal Hasabnis, and Mansi Joshi, all released from their respective franchises. With only five slots available for overseas players, the competition is expected to be fierce.
Dottin’s resume speaks for itself. Fresh off a victorious campaign with the Melbourne Renegades in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), where she played a pivotal role in securing the team’s maiden title, she continues to redefine excellence in women’s cricket. Earlier this year, she emerged from retirement to propel the West Indies Women to the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup, earning a place in the prestigious World Cup XI for her awe-inspiring performances, including leading the tournament in sixes.
The WPL, which has rapidly become a hallmark of excellence and opportunity for women cricketers worldwide, is poised for yet another thrilling season. As the auction approaches, franchises will undoubtedly strategize to acquire marquee players like Dottin, who promise to bring fireworks both on and off the field.
