St Lucia’s employers’ federation (SELF) calls on businesses to boost security

The St. Lucia Employers’ Federation (SLEF) has urged employers to take proactive measures to safeguard their property, staff, and customers in light of a recent increase in criminal activity across the island. In a statement issued on Monday, the SLEF expressed concern about the surge in crime and revealed that it had already reached out to its members earlier in the Christmas season, advising them to exercise caution and reinforce their security protocols.

However, it said recent incidents have highlighted the urgent need for vigilance.

“Therefore, we urge employers to revisit the Federation’s recommendations, which include implementing effective security protocols to protect employees working in vulnerable situations, such as those conducting trade on the roads, and safeguarding business premises,” it said in a statement.

“Now more than ever, we call on our members and all employers to work closely with law enforcement, to enhance safety measures and a secure environment for all. We also encourage citizens and patrons to exercise caution and remain vigilant during their daily activities,” it added.

The SLEF said it remains committed to supporting its members in navigating the challenges and is ready to provide further guidance.
