Jamaican artists earn certifications as Beyoncé secures 62 new awards

American superstar Beyoncé secured 62 new RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) certifications on December 17, with contributions from three Jamaicans—Sean Paul, Grace Jones, and BEAM—earning significant recognition.

Grace Jones, the iconic Jamaican-born singer, actress, and model, is featured on MOVE, a track from Beyoncé’s 2022 album Renaissance. The song, which also features Tems, was certified gold, marking the first RIAA certification for a song featuring Jones in her nearly 50-year career.

Known for her groundbreaking contributions to music, fashion, and film, Jones has released 10 studio albums and graced the Billboard 200 chart nine times, with her highest-ranking album Nightclubbing peaking at #32 in 1981. MOVE reached #55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022 and charted in several countries, including Denmark, France, and Australia.

Sean Paul’s collaboration with Beyoncé on the 2003 hit Baby Boy earned a double platinum certification. Originally featured on the reissue of Paul’s 2002 album Dutty Rock and later included in Beyoncé’s debut solo album Dangerously in Love, the track topped the Billboard Hot 100 and made the top 10 in 18 countries. Previously, the song achieved multiple international certifications, including 3x platinum in Australia and 2x platinum in Canada and the UK.

BEAM, a rapper, singer, and producer—and the son of Jamaican deejay Papa San—contributed to Beyoncé’s Energy, another track from Renaissance, which also earned a gold certification. The song peaked at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #12 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It has also been certified gold in Canada and 3x platinum in Brazil.
