Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide investigators are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run early Saturday morning in Pompano Beach.
According to reports around 5:55 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 4, officials received a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in the 2700 block of West Atlantic Boulevard. BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded. On scene, emergency crews located an adult female who was transported to Broward Health North where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.
According to detectives, the preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking northbound across West Atlantic Boulevard when she was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. Witnesses advised detectives that after the crash, the vehicle, which is believed to be a dark colored sedan, stopped. A male driver exited the vehicle and acknowledged the pedestrian lying on the roadway. The driver then got back into the sedan and fled northbound on Powerline Road from West Atlantic Boulevard.
