The 56th Annual NAACP Image Awards nominees have been revealed, with Bob Marley: One Love earning significant recognition across several key categories.
The movie’s official soundtrack, released under Tuff Gong/Island Records, is nominated for Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation Album alongside projects like Genius: MLK/X (Songs from the Original Series), Reasonable Doubt (Season 2) (Original Soundtrack), The Book of Clarence (The Motion Picture Soundtrack), and Wicked: The Soundtrack. It also secured a nomination for Outstanding Compilation Album.
On the cinematic front, Bob Marley: One Love is competing for Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture against The Book of Clarence, The Piano Lesson, The Six Triple Eight, and Wicked. The film is also in the running for the coveted Outstanding Motion Picture award, alongside Bad Boys: Ride or Die, The Piano Lesson, The Six Triple Eight, and Wicked.
Kingsley Ben-Adir, who stars as Bob Marley, is nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture, competing against André Holland (Exhibiting Forgiveness), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), John David Washington (The Piano Lesson), and Martin Lawrence (Bad Boys: Ride or Die). Lashawna Lynch, portraying Rita Marley, earned a nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture, while the film’s director, Reinaldo Marcus Green, is up for Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture.
Meanwhile, dancehall artist Skillibeng has earned a nomination for Outstanding International Song for his collaboration “Jump” with Tyla and Gunna; along with Skip Marley, who is nominated for his single “Close.”
The NAACP Image Awards will take place on Thursday, February 22, broadcasting live from the Pasadena Civic Center on BET and CBS. This year’s theme, “Our Stories, Our Culture, Our Excellence,” underscores the celebration of Black achievements in arts and culture. While a host for the event has not yet been announced, Queen Latifah emceed the past two ceremonies.
In addition to the televised awards, winners in non-televised categories will be honored at the NAACP Image Awards Creative Honors Ceremonies on Friday, February 21, streaming on naacpimageawards.net.
