Jamaica joined by T&T and Cuba in women’s championship

Trinidad and Tobago crushed Bermuda 3-0 in their final game of the Caribbean Zone of CONCACAF Women’s Championship Qualifying in Kingston on Sunday, to join unbeaten Jamaica in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship next month.

Kennya Cordner netted twice in the second half – in the 57th minute and then three minutes from time – to cap off a dominant T&T display, which had seen them lead 1-0 through Kayla Taylor’s 12th minute strike.

The victory was T&T’s third win in four matches, with their only defeat coming in a 4-1 trashing at the hands of the powerful Jamaicans.

Meanwhile, Jamaica brought an emphatic end to a successful campaign when they slammed Cuba 6-1, with Khadija Shaw scoring twice in the first half and Chinyelu Asher netting once in each half.

Maria Isabeel Perez Torres added a consolation goal for Cuba in second half stoppage.

Jamaica finished on a perfect 12 points and a whopping 23 goals, while conceding just two.

Despite the heavy defeat, Cuba finished third with six points, to secure the final berth at the tournament scheduled for October 4-17 in the United States.

Jamaica, T&T and Cuba will join Costa Rica and Panama who qualified from the Central American zone, while United States, Canada and Mexico qualified automatically.
