Search-and-rescue operations continued in Surfside on Sunday after a condo building collapsed early on Thursday morning. The Miami-Dade Police Department has confirmed that the bodies of nine people have been found so far. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said there were still 156 people who were unaccounted for. Officials expect the death toll will continue to rise. The 12-story Champlain Towers South building was home to an international mix of foreign retirees and immigrants from Latin America. Jamaica’s Consul General, Oliver Mair said he has joined with other Caribbean Consul Generals to offer support to the many first responders at the site.

In Jamaica,
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce completed a sweep of the 100 and 200 meters at the Jamaica Olympic Track and Field Trials. Fraser-Pryce finished the trials on Sunday by winning the 200 in a personal-best of 21.79 seconds. She won the 100 meter on Friday in 10.71 seconds. In both races, she was trailed by Sherika Jackson, who came second, and Elaine Thompson-Herah, who placed third. On the men’s side, Tyquendo Tracey emerged the 100 meter champion, ahead of Yohan Blake and Oblique Seville. In the men’s 200 meters, Sprint Tech’s Rasheed Dwyer clocked 20.17 to take the title, ahead of Yohan Blake and Tyquendo Tracey. The Tokyo Olympics runs from July 23 to August 8.
And in Trinidad and Tobago,
The borders of Trinidad and Tobago are expected to reopen on Saturday, July 17, 2021, but there will be restrictions on access. T&T Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley said that the borders would be open to both vaccinated and unvaccinated citizens. The country would also allow entry to vaccinated non-nationals, but unvaccinated non-nationals are not going to be allowed in the country at this time. Trinidad’s borders have been closed, except through authorised travel exemptions, for more than a year. Unvaccinated Trinidad nationals will have to quarantine in a state facility for 14 days.
