Rescue teams are searching for a plane with four people that originated from St. Kitts but crashed 17 miles southeast of the Turks and Caicos Islands airport.
In a statement, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force said officials from the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies as well as the Fire Department and Emergency Services “are currently engaged in a search and rescue operation off the coast of Grand Turk.
The authorities said the operation is being supported by air support from the US Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection.
“Preliminary reports received state that at 11.40 a.m. on January 3, a call was placed to the 911 Operations Center stating that a flight originating from St. Kitts with four persons crashed 17 miles southeast of the airport,” the statement said, without providing further details.
It said, however, “this remains on ongoing operation” and the “release will be updated as more information comes to hand”.
