Jamaica advances digital transformation at eGov Technology Showcase

The future of Jamaica’s digital transformation took center stage at yesterday’s eGov Jamaica Limited GOJ Digital Government Technology Showcase at the Jamaica Pegasus.

The event, themed Digital Transformation Unlocked: Shaping Jamaica’s Tomorrow, attracted key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, highlighting the country’s advancements in technology and governance.

Running from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the showcase brought together representatives from government agencies, private sector organizations, and tech firms, including the Trade Board, National Water Commission, HEART NSTA Trust, Digicel, Particular Presence Technologies, The Port Authority of Jamaica, The National Land Agency, National Housing Trust, and Fujitsu, among others. Attendees explored innovative solutions designed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and security in government services.

In a pointed address to the nation’s youth, Minister of Industry, Investment, and Commerce, Senator Aubyn Hill, urged young Jamaicans to use digital platforms more productively.

“Get off scrolling on Instagram unless you’re selling something,” he said. “Many young Jamaicans are already making money selling products online. Don’t waste time on other people’s business.”

“We are a nation of brilliant creators, we must commit to using technology responsibly to advance our individual causes yes, but also as a nation” he continued.

A key discussion at the event featured Sasha Ebanks, Network Specialist at eGov Jamaica Limited, who engaged Minister Hill in a conversation about ongoing digital transformation initiatives. They examined strategies to improve connectivity and digital access across the island, reinforcing the government’s commitment to modernizing public services.

Now in its third year, the eGov Jamaica Digital Government Technology Showcase continues to be a vital platform for innovation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing. The 2025 edition underscored the role of technology in streamlining public services and shaping a more efficient, transparent, and accessible government.

With a clear focus on embracing digital solutions, Jamaica is forging ahead in its transformation journey, ensuring a more connected and technologically advanced future for its citizens and businesses.
