Police in the island of Jamaica are now outfitted with body cameras.
The first set of cameras were issued to police from four police divisions – Kingston Eastern, Kingston Central, St. Andrew Central and Kingston Western – in the capital city.

The move was made possible through funding from the United States Embassy in Kingston which has been supportive of the island’s law enforcement apparatus through strengthening the technological capacity of the constabulary and its interaction with members of the public.
Human rights groups in the island have long clamored for law enforcement to be held more accountable in light of the high number of fatal shootings and alleged human rights abuses by agents of the state.
