Lauderhill Mall to host “Voices of Jamaica” cultural event

On Saturday 26, from 5:30 -7:30 pm, The Lauderhill Mall, in conjunction with the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce will host the Annual “VOICES OF JAMAICA” cultural event, in celebration of Black History Month.

Held under the Distinguished Patronage of the Consulate General of Jamaica, the Program includes a presentation by Jamaica’s Consul General, the Hon. Franz N. Hall, who will speak on “Jamaica’s Contributions to Black History.”  The Jamaican Folk Revue, the Tallawah Mento Band, and the Sierra Norwood Cultural Kids Group will treat the audience to songs and recitals that take a nostalgic and amusing look at Jamaican Folklore as well as modern Jamaican drama.

Jamaican Playwright, Poet and Folklorist, Rev. Easton Lee, will present from his repertoire and hilarious depictions of the intertwining of Chinese and Black Jamaican cultures in Jamaica.  Malachi Smith, an Award-Winning and vastly entertaining Jamaican Poet and Cultural Orator, will thrill the audience with his famous renditions.

Ash Matthews will don the atmosphere with Jamaican music…especially featuring the music of Jamaican Musical Icon and the “People’s Hero,” the late Bob Marley, whose birthdate is also celebrated during Black History Month.

“Voices of Jamaica is designed to broaden our business networking scope by sharing our rich Jamaican Culture with the general community,” said Marie Gill, President of the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce. “Celebrating Black History Month in this manner helps to fulfill a component of the Chamber’s mission: To encourage and enhance business development among our membership; Promote Brand Jamaica; and Increase and Facilitate Trade and Cultural Awareness between Jamaica and the United States.”
