The St. Andrew Old Girls Association Florida Chapter marked its 35th anniversary with a spirited fundraiser celebration, “La Fete Dubonnet,” at Island Time in Davie, Florida, on October 26, 2024.
Alumni and supporters from across the U.S. gathered in “denim and dazzle” attire for the event, which channeled the festive atmosphere of Jamaican school fêtes and celebrated the legacy of St. Andrew High School.
The evening featured South Florida DJs Radcliffe and Squeeze of FeteDaze I-Radio, along with a special performance by Wayne Armond, formerly of the reggae band Chalice, who treated nearly 500 attendees to a nostalgic musical set. With food catered by SIZZLE, spicy shrimp from Rockin Robin, and a lively cash bar, the event offered a taste of Jamaica while alumni proudly waved their house flags, competed for prizes, and enjoyed raffles and giveaways.
In attendance was St. Andrew’s Principal, Keeva Ingram, who traveled from Jamaica to show her support, along with other alumni from the Jamaican chapter and members from the Georgia chapter. Representatives from Jamaica College Alumni Association—St. Andrew’s brother school—added their support to the event’s organizing team.
Andrea Fletcher, founder of the Florida chapter, joined past presidents in expressing pride at the chapter’s growth and applauded current president Michelle Penn and the fête committee for delivering a standout event. Event promotion leader Karene Cardenas received special recognition for her outstanding efforts, including an award for the most tickets sold. Major sponsors, including Greenberg Traurig International Law Firm, Automotive Management Services Inc., and Midway Specialty Care Center, were credited alongside numerous supporters whose contributions ensured the evening’s success.
Proceeds from the event, which met its fundraising goal, will be directed toward maintenance and updates for the school’s student hostel and other essential projects identified by the school. The chapter’s milestone celebration not only marked 35 years of service but underscored a bright future for St. Andrew High School with ongoing alumni support.
With the event’s success, October 26 may just become known as St. Andrew’s Alumni Day!
