Rane Blackman, a U.S.-based Soca artist with Trinidadian roots, is riding the wave of success following the release of her hit single Careless, produced by Barbados’ DJ Kai for Crop Over 2024.
The track exceeded her expectations, propelling her career to new heights and fueling her drive as she looks ahead to 2025.
Known for her humility and determination, Blackman balances her artistic pursuits with her duties as a member of the U.S. military. Reflecting on her recent successes, she credits strategic networking and collaborations with her growth in the Soca scene. “Careless did really well in Barbados,” she shared. “Working with DJ Kai helped me connect with other artists, songwriters, and DJs. Collaborating outside of your traditional spaces shows versatility and helps you explore new musical sounds.”
Global reach
In 2024, Blackman also released the groovy single Let We Go on the Sass Riddim, which gained international attention after being road-remixed by DJ Shot Master J. The song found its way into Zumba choreography in Spain and was shared widely across Germany, Korea, and Japan. “It feels amazing to know that people who don’t even speak English are enjoying my music,” she said.
Beyond her music, Blackman launched a behind-the-scenes Instagram Live series called Behind the Soca. The bi-weekly program invites fellow Soca creatives to share their experiences and industry insights. The show has been a hit with fans, offering hours of engaging content and valuable history. Guests have included songwriter Jason “Shaft” Bishop, producer David Millien, and dancehall-Soca artist Lady Lava.
With a strong foundation of musical achievements and a clear vision for the future, Rane Blackman continues to solidify her place in the global Soca community, proving that hard work, versatility, and passion can break barriers and unite audiences worldwide.
