Queen of Dancehall Spice has earned her first Silver certification in the United Kingdom for her 2014 track “So Mi Like It.”
The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) awarded the track its Brit Certified Silver Award on Friday, recognizing over 200,000 units sold in the UK.
This latest achievement follows a Gold certification in Canada last month, where the song surpassed 40,000 units sold. The provocative single, which has become Spice’s signature anthem, was recorded on the pulsating Boom Box riddim produced by NotNice. The riddim also featured notable tracks like Alkaline’s “Gyal Bruk Out” and Beenie Man’s “What Is This.”
“So Mi Like It” first appeared on Spice’s eponymous debut EP in 2014 and later found a place on her 2021 studio album, 10.
The song’s music video, released in January 2014, has since become the most viewed music video by a female Jamaican artist on YouTube, amassing over 124 million views. A remix of the track featuring rapper Busta Rhymes was later released on his mixtape Catastrophic 2 in March 2014.
Spice’s debut studio album, 10, released on August 6, 2021, debuted at number six on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. The album, which includes “So Mi Like It,” was also nominated for Best Reggae Album at the 64th Grammy Awards in 2022.
In November 2021, Shaggy confirmed Spice’s departure from VP Records. Following that, she announced the release of her second studio album, Emancipated.
Last month, Spice released her third studio album Mirror 25 via her own label, Spice Official Ent., under license to Empire Distribution. The album features guest appearances from Ky-Mani Marley, Busta Rhymes, Lola Brooke, Jada Kingdom, Pamputtae, Patoranking, and Chronic Law.
