Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened with leaders from five Caribbean nations during the United Nations General Assembly in New York City in September.
Among the attendees were Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader, Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Terrance Drew, and Barbados Foreign Minister Kerrie Symmonds, as reported by Netanyahu’s office.
Focus on Public Health and Water Management
The group of leaders discussed prevalent issues such as public health and water management challenges affecting their respective nations. Netanyahu committed to sending Israeli experts to the Caribbean to provide necessary assistance.
Israel is set to expand its support later in the year, with the Israeli embassy in Panama slated to conduct a course named “Intensive vegetable production in arid and semi-arid conditions.”
Strengthening Israeli-Caribbean Ties
Earlier in the year, ties between the regions were strengthened with collaborations in sports and international resolutions, including a memorandum of understanding between Israeli and Dominican Republic baseball teams, and the adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance working definition of antisemitism by Latin American legislators.
