Jamaicans residing in the diaspora now have the option to include Jamaica’s recently refurbished Medical Associates facility among their choices for medical services. While many Jamaicans living overseas become worried when visiting or even becoming patients at some of the local health facilities, the undergoing transformative overhaul of this medical facility holds the promise of becoming a prominent and reputable name in Jamaica’s healthcare sector.
The transformation marks the initial phase of a wider strategy set in motion by Caribbean Health Systems, a St Lucia-based corporation that has recently assumed ownership of Medical Associates in February.
A vision for comprehensive departmental upgrades
Dr. Samantha Johnson, who heads business development and operations at Medical Associates, shared that their vision is a comprehensive upgrade for all departments, aligning with the ethos of the new parent company.
“It’s a step-by-step process, and we’ve initiated this transformation where it impacts most – the most utilized areas. This is just one aspect of our extensive rebranding, aiming to establish Medical Associates as the leading name in patient-focused healthcare,” Johnson said.
The physical renovation is indicative of a clear shift towards patient-centric care. The revitalized entrance marks the hospital as a premier provider of high-quality care in a welcoming setting, illustrating its unwavering commitment to healthcare excellence.
Changes in the operating theatre also include swapping the earlier blue and yellow for a calming blend of white, blue, and grey.
Dr. Johnson added that they have not just brightened the space but also reinvigorated the patient care ethos.
She noted that people sometimes avoid or dislike going to hospitals due to preconceived negative thoughts and even experiences. She said that they are working on changing that perception and experience for the people of Jamaica.
State-of-the-art technology: Paving the way for advanced healthcare in Jamaica
In parallel, the integration of cutting-edge technology and equipment ensures that patients will soon have access to the most advanced and affordable healthcare on the island.
She highlighted a patient’s sense of comfort and safety should start from the moment they walk through the doors. This she said is part of the transformation they are undertaking.
This strategic overhaul is intended to ensure a smooth transition and consistent patient care. Another significant step in the transformation journey will be initiated soon, focusing on the heavily frequented Accident and Emergency department.
Beyond renovation: A revitalization of the body, mind, and soul of Medical Associates
David Walcott, the outgoing co-chair and managing director of Medical Associates, stated that their ongoing transformation is not limited to physical renovations, but rather it’s a “revitalization of the body, soul, and mind of our hospital.”
Walcott said that they are infusing a fresh and invigorating spirit into the very essence of their institution. This newfound energy he said is motivating their staff to achieve unparalleled levels of compassion and professionalism, all while prioritizing the safety, care, and comfort of their patients.
Although the renovation adds visual appeal, the medical staff recognizes the comprehensive changes, lauding the improved work environment that increases productivity and inspires continued delivery of professional and empathetic care.
With these exciting advancements, both Jamaicans residing locally and abroad can confidently seek medical care, as the CHS commits to transforming the 64-year-old Kingston-based hospital into the Caribbean’s largest private healthcare facility.
This renowned institution aims to excel through its implementation of cutting-edge technology and the provision of top-notch, first-class services.
