The US Embassy’s warning highlights the unsettling trend of murders happening at all hours, even in broad daylight on the streets, raising local unease.

Impact on Bahamian residents

While the security alert may concern foreign visitors, the Bahamian population is most affected by this high homicide rate.

Local communities are grappling with increased violence, prompting swift action by authorities.

According to reports, homicides increased by eight per cent from 2021 to 2022, with 128 reported in 2022, up from 119 the year before.
