BVI Government takes action to dispel misinformation with innovative initiative

British Virgin Islands’ Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has initiated a campaign designed to highlight the accomplishments of his administration.

Combatting misinformation: Aiming for transparency and accountability

The campaign which was launched earlier this week is entitled the “Government Business at Its Best” initiative and is said to be aligned with the government’s ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability.

According to Wheatley, the majority of recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report have been finalized or are nearing completion. To continue these efforts, he said the government is implementing structures and practices designed to improve their approach continually.

“We are seeking to ensure that the COI implementation framework grows into something deeper and more meaningful as we shift into completion mode,” he said.

A modern approach to governance: Educating and informing stakeholders

Wheatley shared that this newly introduced initiative, touted as a modern approach to governance, is geared not only towards enlightening stakeholders about the implementation of the COI recommendations but also to assist in distributing essential information.

The premier clarified that another fundamental goal of this initiative is to counteract any spread of misinformation, misperceptions, or inaccuracies regarding the government’s efforts to implement the 49 COI recommendations. The progress already achieved and the other obligations and accomplishments of the government are also included.
