KINGSTON, Jamaica — Dental assistant Kayodi Satchell has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of eight-year-old Danielle Rowe. Supreme Court Judge Carolyn Tie-Powell delivered the decision on Friday, stating that Satchell would be eligible for parole after serving 27 years and four months.
In addition to the murder charge, Satchell was sentenced to six years and three months for child stealing. The sentences will run concurrently.
During the sentencing, Justice Carolyn Tie-Powell condemned Kayodi Satchell’s actions as “sheer evil.” She highlighted the profound impact of Danielle Rowe’s death on her family, noting the deep emotional toll it has taken on her loved ones. Justice Tie-Powell pointed out that Danielle’s brother constantly asks for her, while her sister struggles with anger and feelings of wanting to die. The judge emphasized the immense loss Danielle’s family has suffered as a result of her tragic death.
Satchell, by her own admission, snatched Rowe from Braeton Primary and Infant School in Portmore, Catherine on June 8, 2023 and took her to a location in St Andrew where she fed her a meal before slashing her throat. The mortally wounded child was found by a member of the Jamaica Defence Force on Roosevelt Avenue in St Andrew. She succumbed to her injuries in hospital two days later on June 10.
In September of this year, Kayodi Satchell pleaded guilty to the horrific acts that caused widespread horror and outrage. Satchell claimed that she was driven to commit the crime out of “bitterness and frustration” after being jilted by the child’s father, whom she accused of infecting her with HIV. Her actions, which led to the tragic death of eight-year-old Danielle Rowe, have sparked widespread condemnation and deep emotional trauma for the victim’s family and the community.
