Guyana stands firm in its support for a two-State solution in Palestine

Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali welcomed representatives from the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People during their courtesy visit to State House on Wednesday.

Acknowledging Guyana’s vocal support for Palestine, particularly during its tenure at the helm of the UN Security Council, the Committee conveyed its heartfelt appreciation to President Ali and the people of Guyana. 

They also expressed profound gratitude for the substantial contribution of over $110 million raised by Guyanese citizens to aid relief efforts in Palestine.

Reaffirmation of principles and hope for peace

During the meeting, President Ali reiterated Guyana’s steadfast commitment to fundamental principles of justice, fairness, peace, and equity. 

Emphasizing the nation’s unwavering stance, he reaffirmed Guyana’s aspiration for a peaceful resolution through a two-state solution.

Distinguished delegation in attendance

The delegation, led by the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Guyana, HE Yesmin Oruc, comprised esteemed figures including Ambassador Cheikh Niang, Permanent Representative of Senegal to the UN and Chair of the Committee, and Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the UN and Vice Chair of the Committee. 

Also present were Ambassador Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer of Palestine to the UN, and Patrice Chiwota, Senior Political Officer and Secretary of the Committee.

The Guyanese side was represented by Ambassador Elisabeth Harper, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; George Talbot, Guyana’s Ambassador to CARICOM; and Marcia Nadir-Sharma, Director of Presidential Affairs, underscoring the significance of the meeting and Guyana’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and solidarity.

By hosting this delegation, President Ali not only reaffirmed Guyana’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause but also underscored the nation’s dedication to upholding global principles of justice and peace.
