Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry on Thursday called for calm amidst ongoing protests that have paralyzed the nation for three consecutive days.
Demonstrators have demanded his resignation, citing frustration over rampant gang violence, deepening poverty, and the absence of a clear electoral plan.
Condemnation of violence
In his appeal, Henry urged against viewing the government or police as adversaries. He also condemned violent means of power acquisition, stressing that such actions are contrary to the nation’s interests.
Thousands of Haitians assembled daily throughout the week in cities and towns across the country, demanding Prime Minister Henry’s resignation and vowing to continue protesting until he leaves.
