Jamaica’s tourism sector is set for a significant boost as the planned weekly non-stop flights from Lisbon, Portugal, to Montego Bay, St. James, are already showing strong demand, with 50 percent occupancy months ahead of the scheduled summer launch.
The announcement was made by officials from World2Meet, the travel and tourism division of the Spanish hotel and tourism giant Iberostar Group, which operates World2Fly. The news was shared during the 45th edition of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur 2025), currently taking place in Madrid, Spain.
Tourism stakeholders are optimistic that the Lisbon-Montego Bay flights will be fully booked by March, given the strong early demand. These flights will be operated by the state-of-the-art Airbus A350, which has a seating capacity of around 432 passengers.
World2Fly, which specializes in leisure routes to Caribbean destinations, offers flights from both Spain and Portugal. The new service is expected to provide a seamless travel experience between Europe and the Caribbean.
In response to the announcement, Jamaica’s Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett, emphasized the significance of the new flights in strengthening the country’s ties to European markets and boosting its tourism sector.
“This new route underscores the growing appeal of Jamaica as a premier destination for European travellers,” Bartlett stated.
“It also reflects our continuous efforts to diversify and expand our tourism markets,” he added.
Portugal, one of Europe’s fastest-growing travel hubs, and Jamaica are poised to attract a diverse range of visitors, further supporting their tourism-driven economies. As the summer 2025 launch draws closer, both the aviation and tourism sectors are gearing up to meet the anticipated demand, underscoring Jamaica’s growing appeal as a world-class destination. This new flight connection is expected to enhance the island’s visibility and strengthen its position as a key player in Caribbean tourism.
