Massive cocaine seizure at sea: A major blow to transnational crime

The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in collaboration with several US federal partners, has seized an immense haul of cocaine in a series of operations.

The substances, intercepted in three events across the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, amounted to nearly five tonnes in total.

According to reports, CBP said the seizure has denied transnational criminal organizations an estimated US$127 million in proceeds.

United front against drug trafficking

The CBP reported that in three interdictions done between October 7-9, a total of 9,652 pounds or 4.8 tonnes of cocaine was seized.

Astounding figures

Reflecting on its anti-trafficking efforts over the year, the CBP has revealed staggering figures that underscore the scope and success of its operations.

They have accomplished 967 arrests and a monumental 134,981 apprehensions of undocumented individuals from the Caribbean and other regions.

Broad spectrum of seizures: Beyond cocaine

In addition to the massive cocaine seizures, the CBP’s actions have led to the disruption or confiscation of a multitude of other illicit substances and items.

These include 250,616 pounds of cocaine, 1,475 pounds of fentanyl, and 25,625 pounds of methamphetamine. The extensive operations have also led to the interception of 1,342 weapons, showcasing the broad spectrum of the CBP’s successful crackdowns.
