Storm Watch: Haiti, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic on alert for Tropical Storm Franklin

The Eighth Storm of 2023 Tropical Storm Franklin has emerged as the season’s eighth storm, originating in the Caribbean Sea on Sunday. 

As it gains momentum, Caribbean islands are on high alert, preparing for potential impacts.

Regions under advisory

The Dominican Republic and Haiti have been issued both a Tropical Storm Warning and Watch. Meanwhile, the Turks and Caicos Islands remain under a Tropical Storm Watch.

Tropical Storm Franklin’s recent status 

Reports from the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) are that Franklin was located 380 km south of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The storm has sustained winds that are 50 mph (85 km/h).

If current predictions hold, the center of Franklin is set to make landfall on the southern coast of Hispaniola by Tuesday night.

NHC anticipates that the storm may intensify a bit before it reaches Hispaniola’s shores.
