Kirk Cornish, a Bahamian government legislator, was released on a US$9,000 bail on Wednesday following his court appearance for two counts of rape involving a 35-year-old woman.
Cornish, 48, is also facing two more charges related to assault and making death threats.
He recently stepped down from his position as Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister. He is the member of Parliament for the North Abaco area.

Justice Gregory Hilton at the Supreme Court in granting bail to Cornish, said Cornish is required to report to the police station in Cooper’s Town, Abaco once per week
Timeline of events
The prosecution said that the crimes allegedly took place in Coopers Town, Abaco, and in Nassau, New Providence, between January 20th and April 4th this year.
Cornish was not required to plead to the allegations when he appeared before the Acting Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.
Earlier this year, a police investigation was initiated following a woman’s allegations against Cornish.
While Cornish denied the accusations, stating they are false, the independent Director of Public Prosecutions believes there is enough evidence to press charges against him.
