US Virgin Islands customs and immigration launch fully online border entry system

The US Virgin Islands Customs has teamed up with the Department of Immigration to roll out a fully online card processing system, streamlining border entry procedures.

Commissioner Clinton ‘Greg’ Romney explained that this digital transformation replaces multiple forms with a single online document, reducing paperwork, simplifying the process, and cutting down processing time for travelers. The new system aims to improve efficiency and enhance the overall travel experience to the Virgin Islands.

The new digital border entry system, introduced by CARICOM IMPACS, allows travelers to submit their entry information up to 72 hours before traveling. This advancement enables immigration and customs officers to receive advance information, promoting more efficient and proactive border management.

Commissioner Clinton ‘Greg’ Romney emphasized that both agencies aim to create a seamless process to expedite processing times at various ports of entry. The digital system not only improves service efficiency but also reduces operational costs and minimizes the environmental impact by eliminating the need for paper forms.

The Commissioner anticipates that while some travelers may initially feel uncertain about the technological transition, they will gradually become more comfortable with the online system.
