A Haitian pastor wanted on multiple charges, including smuggling weapons, was arrested in the Dominican Republic last week and handed over to Haitian authorities.
Pastor Dieune Day’s arrest stems from a 2022 investigation in which customs officers uncovered weapons in duty-free containers arriving in Haiti. The containers were reportedly imported under a franchise held by the Episcopal Church of Haiti.
The Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) had issued a wanted notice for Day, citing charges of tax evasion, smuggling, breach of trust, and criminal association.
Following his extradition, Day is now in police custody in Haiti, where he awaits legal proceedings. Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about his case or potential court dates.
