Thirteen public schools in Miami-Dade County have earned the prestigious Florida Purple Star School of Distinction Designation, recognized for their exceptional efforts in supporting military families.
This marks the first time Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) has participated in the initiative, with all 13 schools meeting the program’s rigorous standards. The designation is valid for three school years.
The 2024 honorees are:
- Air Base K-8 Center for International Education
- American Senior High School
- G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School
- Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School
- Homestead Senior High School
- Hubert O. Sibley K-8 Academy
- John I. Smith K-8 Center
- Maritime & Science Technology (MAST) Academy
- Miami Killian Senior High School
- Miami Senior High School
- Miami Southridge Senior High School
- North Miami Beach Senior High School
- Southwest Miami Senior High School
The Florida Legislature established the Purple Star designation in 2021 to recognize schools that demonstrate a commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by military-connected students. The program emphasizes providing tailored resources and support to ensure smooth transitions for military families entering new school environments.
