Deerfield Beach 11-year-old hospitalized following dog attack

An 11-year-old boy is recovering after being attacked by a dog outside his home in Deerfield Beach. Broward Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about an animal bite around 6:30 p.m. on the 400 block of Southwest 13th Place, near South Dixie Highway. The boy was in the courtyard outside his apartment when the dog bit him. He had been preparing to go to church and walked over to his uncle’s apartment in the same building when the attack occurred.

According to reports the animal’s owner intervened.

“If it wasn’t for the owner, I would’ve been dead, because he was punching the dog so hard, really hard,” Pierre said. “After that, all three of the dogs started biting him all over his body. He was in the hospital just like me.”

Stefan’s mom Eliette Dorsainvil heard her son screaming and came outside to see what happened.

Deputies were forced to shoot one of the three dogs involved in the attack, officials said.

In a statement Sunday, Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said three dogs were involved and that deputies were forced to shoot one of them that was still posing a danger to the community.

The dog was transported by Broward County Animal Care for treatment and apparently survived. All three dogs are in animal care’s custody.

No deputies were injured.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and the boy is receiving treatment for his injuries.
