A blast of cold air will continue to affect the eastern United States this week, as another wave of winter weather moves into the Great Lakes and Northeast. The cold front is expected to bring freezing temperatures and chilly conditions to many areas, with the coldest air settling in from the Great Lakes to the Northeast. This latest cold shot will contribute to a prolonged winter chill in the region, with temperatures remaining well below average for much of the week.
People in affected areas are being advised to prepare for the ongoing cold temperatures. While temperatures in those locations may run 10 to 15 degrees below normal at times through Friday, Florida will benefit from a cooler trend, too.
A cool down is expected for Florida later this week, with morning temperatures dipping into the lower to mid-50s on Thursday and Friday. While not the coldest air of the season, the cooler temperatures will keep afternoon highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s through the end of the week. This pleasant, cool weather will linger until Saturday, with temperatures rising toward 80 degrees by Sunday. South Florida will remain dry throughout the period, continuing the trend of abnormally dry conditions as January progresses.
