Visions Band responds to arrest of member Andrew Hanson

The popular Visions Band, known for performing at Caribbean events across South Florida, has issued a statement distancing itself from its lead vocalist, Andrew Hanson, also known as Murphy Prince, following his recent arrest.

In a statement posted on social media, the band said: “By now we’ve all heard the news and seen the headlines and it’s a travesty. The Visions Band and its members do not uphold or condone the behavior of Andrew Hanson and have since distanced ourselves from both him and the situation. We are firmly opposed to any form of abuse and stand resolute in our commitment to ethics, integrity, and respect. Our heart goes out to the victim as no one should have to endure this kind of torture, oppression, and exploitation.”

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), the Jamaican singer has been accused of repeatedly assaulting the victim since 2018. The arrest affidavit states that the victim, now 18, reported that the abuse began when she was just 11 years old.

Hanson is currently being held at the Palm Beach County Jail. Authorities say he first assaulted the victim while bathing her, and the abuse continued on a monthly basis after she moved in with him in 2018.

Investigators detailed in the affidavit that Hanson would frequently summon the victim to meet him in the parking lot of their apartment complex in the early morning hours, usually around 2 a.m. or 3 a.m., via text messages. The victim told authorities that she knew he expected to have sex with her. Afterward, he allegedly instructed her to return to the apartment and delete their messages.

The most recent assault reportedly took place on January 4 inside the victim’s bedroom. On January 30, when questioned by deputies, Hanson allegedly admitted to sending the messages and engaging in sexual activity with the victim, including the most recent incident while his wife and family were out of town.

Hanson remains in custody as the investigation continues. Authorities urge anyone with additional information to come forward.

Hanson has also performed with other bands in Florida and as a solo vocalist.
