CG United Women’s Super50 Cup returns to St. Kitts for cricket showpiece

JOHN’S, Antigua–The Caribbean’s premier women’s cricket tournament is back, as Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the much-anticipated return of the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup to St. Kitts. From February 24 to March 7, the region’s top female cricketers will clash in an electrifying battle for supremacy, setting the stage for what promises to be a high-octane showdown.

The competition will unfold across three iconic venuesWarner Park, Conaree Cricket Centre, and St. Paul’s Sports Complex, with matches beginning daily at 10:00 AM.

Champions Jamaica face fierce competition

Defending champions Jamaica, who dominated last year’s tournament, will look to retain their title against a formidable line-up of teams, including Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago Red Force, Guyana, Windward Islands, and hosts Leeward Islands.

With an intense international cricket calendar ahead, including the ODI World Cup, this tournament serves as a crucial proving ground for West Indies Women’s cricket, ensuring players are battle-hardened for global competition.

‘A celebration of women’s cricket’

CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe shared his enthusiasm for the tournament, emphasizing its role in elevating women’s cricket across the region.

“We at Cricket West Indies are thrilled to kick off this year’s CG United Women’s Super50,” Bascombe said. “This tournament isn’t just a competition but a celebration of the incredible strides we’ve made in women’s cricket across the Caribbean.”

“We are seeing phenomenal talent emerging from every corner of the region, and watching these players battle it out on the field is going to be something special,” he added.

“With our international tours on the horizon and the impending ODI World Cup, the timing couldn’t be better to showcase the strength of West Indies women’s cricket. We are particularly excited for cricket fans in St. Kitts to see, once again, some of our rising stars in action as the future of women’s cricket in the Caribbean looks brighter than ever.”

Last year’s heroes and rivalries reignite

The 2024 edition of the Super50 Cup was packed with jaw-dropping performances, with Jamaica asserting dominance in an emphatic 204-run victory over Barbados, thanks to Stafanie Taylor’s stellar 99-run innings.

Meanwhile, Guyana made a bold statement, led by Ashmini Munisar’s sensational 5/15 spell against Trinidad & TobagoThe Windward Islands also etched their name in the history books with a thrilling two-wicket triumph over Trinidad & Tobago, fueled by Jannillea Glasgow’s match-winning knock of 62.

The tournament also saw Chinelle Henry’s lethal 6/31 performance for JamaicaKycia Knight’s consistency at the crease for Barbadosand Shemaine Campbelle’s aggressive stroke play for Guyana, all of which electrified the cricketing landscape.
