World Athletics Championships UPDATE: Jamaica adds more medals

Medals Snatched

Jamaica added two more medals to its tally at the end of the men’s long jump final a short while ago.

Wayne Pinnock saw the gold medal snatched from him in the last round by Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou with 8.52m to Pinnock’s 8.50m.

Also in the final round 2019 champion Tajay Gayle snatched the bronze medal from teammate Carey McLeod with 8.27m, the same distance but ahead of countback.
It was a historic final for Jamaica with three participants.

Gold and more gold

Earlier today, Danielle Williams and Antonio Watson crashed the party to land gold medals for Jamaica.

Minutes later Watson ran the race of his life to win the men’s 400m final in 44.21 seconds ahead of Great Britain’s Hudson-Smith in 44.31 seconds and American Quincy Hall in 44.37 seconds, a personal best.

Clayton adds another bronze

Rushell Clayton, Jamaica’s best 400m hurdler all season, proved her mettle when she ran a personal best 52.81 seconds to claim the bronze medal in her pet event on the final event on Day 6 of the 19th World Athletics Championships just now.

One of three Jamaicans in the final, Clayton was just one hundredth of a second behind American Shamier Little in a season best 52.80 seconds, but well behind gold medal winner and overwhelming favorite Femke Bol of Netherlands in 51.70 seconds.

Janieve Russell and Andrenette Knight finished well down the track. It was the fifth medal for Jamaica on the day following gold medals by Danielle Williams in the women’s 100m hurdles final and Antonio Watson in the men’s 400m final. Long jumpers Wayne Pinnock and Tajay Gayle had earlier won silver and bronze.
