Sprinter Oblique Seville eyes breakthrough at Paris Olympics, aiming for podium finish

Jamaican sprinter Oblique Seville is determined to make his mark on the global stage, setting his sights on a podium finish at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games after consecutive fourth-place finishes at the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships.

The 23-year-old athlete has demonstrated promising form early in the season, clocking impressive times of 47.44 seconds in the 400 meters at the Camperdown Classics and 20.17 seconds in the 200 meters at Velocity Fest.

Seville attributes his strong performances to his dedication and hard work in training, expressing optimism about his chances of securing a podium spot in Paris.

Reflecting on his season’s progress, Seville emphasized the importance of maintaining his training regimen to ensure peak performance when it matters most. He stated, “My training is going very well. It just has to maintain that level right now. So once I maintain that then anything is possible.”

Will go head-to-head with reigning double sprint world champion

Seville is set to face stiff competition at the Racers Grand Prix on June 1, where he will go head-to-head with reigning double sprint world champion Noah Lyles. Anticipating the challenge, Seville views the race as an opportunity to gauge his readiness against elite competition and gain valuable experience ahead of the Olympics.

Competing on home soil at the National Stadium adds an extra level of excitement for Seville, who values the support of Jamaican fans as he prepares for the pinnacle of his athletic career. He believes that competing against Lyles early in the season will provide valuable insights into what to expect at the Olympics.

Acknowledging the fierce competition within Jamaica’s sprinting fraternity, Seville recognizes that securing a spot on the nation’s Olympic team will be no easy feat.
