Reggae Boys Jamal Lowe and Kasey Palmer both scored for their English second-tier Championship clubs but enjoyed mixed fortunes on Saturday as many lower-division matches across the country were postponed because of frozen pitches.
Swansea City fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Lowe’s Queens Park Rangers (QPR) at Loftus Road thanks to Jay Fulton’s equaliser on 81 minutes as the hosts paid the price for missing a number of gilt-edged chances to kill off the contest.
Lowe’s first goal for QPR had put the hosts in front on 27 minutes as he scored against his former club. The 28-year-old Lowe also rattled the crossbar and was denied by substitute goalkeeper Andy Fisher before Fulton punished QPR’s failure to find a second goal. Lowe’s goal was his second of the season, with the ex-Swansea striker joining QPR on a six-month loan from Premier League strugglers Bournemouth earlier this month.
The draw sees QPR remain a point behind the Swans, with QPR 13th and Swansea 11th in the table.
Palmer, meanwhile, notched his third goal of the campaign, but was on the receiving end as Norwich City won a six-goal classic at Coventry as they hit four away goals for the second Saturday running.
New boss David Wagner’s Canaries stunned the Sky Blues with three goals in the space of 12 first-half minutes.
But at 3-0 down in the 18th minute at the Coventry Building Society Arena, the hosts responded with two quick-fire goals of their own from captain Jamie Allen, then a second from a powerful left-foot shot by top scorer Viktor Gyokeres, although it was credited to 26-year-old midfielder Palmer, who arrived as the ball was struck.
Kieran Dowell made it 4-2 on 65 minutes.
Norwich are in the play-offs as they lie sixth in the table while Coventry are 15th.
Simeon Jackson, a 35-year-old forward who was born in Jamaica but went on to play 49 times for Canada, earned promotion-chasing Chelmsford City all three points with an 89th-minute goal in a 2-1 win at Weymouth in a sixth-tier National League South clash at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
Chelmsford are fourth in the table, 10 points behind leaders Ebbsfleet United.
