South Caicos welcomes first-ever direct US flight, boosting tourism

South Caicos has officially become more accessible than ever with the launch of its first direct flight from the United States.

American Airlines inaugurated the historic route from Miami on Saturday, March 15, offering twice-weekly flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays year-round. The new service bypasses the typical transfer through Providenciales, significantly enhancing travel convenience for visitors.

American Airlines is the first carrier to offer a direct route to South Caicos, marking a major milestone for Turks and Caicos tourism. The development further cements the country’s reputation as a multi-island destination, expanding opportunities for travelers seeking an off-the-beaten-path Caribbean escape.

New luxury resort opens on South Caicos

The launch of the direct flight coincides with the grand opening of Salterra Resort & Spa, a Marriott Bonvoy Luxury Collection property. Officially welcoming guests on March 8, 2025, Salterra adds to South Caicos’ luxury offerings alongside the well-established Sailrock Resort. The new resort features 100 guest rooms and suites, six distinct dining options, and a full-service spa.

A rising travel hotspot

Recently named one of The Wall Street Journal’s 10 Best Places to Visit in 2025, South Caicos is known for its rich history, vibrant marine life, and world-class bonefishing. Visitors can enjoy scuba diving, explore local dining spots like Triple J’s Grill and Sunset Café Bar & Grill, or simply relax on the island’s pristine white-sand beaches.

At a ceremony celebrating the inaugural flight, Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Zhavargo Jolly—who grew up in South Caicos—reflected on the island’s evolution. “We remember when South Caicos was the thriving heart of commerce in the Turks and Caicos Islands—full of life, industry, and opportunity. Over the years, we’ve seen the island face challenges, but today is different. Today, South Caicos stands ready for a new beginning. This direct international flight is not just a symbol of progress; it’s a clear message to the world that South Caicos is back, stronger and more vibrant than ever.”

With direct access now in place, South Caicos is poised to welcome a new wave of travelers eager to experience its unspoiled beauty and relaxed island charm.
